1983 Tamiya Frog This is my state of the art (in 1985) Frog Buggy. As you can see its not pink. Pink was a bad Idea anyway. The old Frog still has the original body and frame. It has a thorp diff in the back. The original diff stripped within a week. They just couldn't handle any power. Suspension is CRP in the front and Associated short shocks in the rear. The Associated shocks were much shorter than the stock frog shocks, but it was actually an increase in travel. Not to mention they were about ten times as smooth. The tires I believe are Proline. (Yes they were around back then.) I cant even remember who made the aluminum inserts for the Rims. They are almost as cool as the original Jackman wheels that came on the kit. The radio here is the original that I used to run this car. Its an old Kraft. (known as KO Propo today) The steering wheel is a Hot works aftermarket replacement. Looks cool huh! Call Keith Manton if you want one. 226-6699. They are available for most radios and in several colors. What kills me is that this setup is older than half the guys racing today. Georges RC10 This Car started life as an original RC10. It has Andy's wide track A-arms, A tall front shock tower with rear Associated shocks on the front, Ball Bearing steering, Belt Drive from Hyperdrive, and a Composite Craft graphite chassis. The rear A-arms are relocated to team car specs. It has a steel 6 gear transmission, and is pushed by a trinity slot machine reverse rotation stock motor. This car is as it was run in the 80's. It is the best example of how far you can go with hop ups and still be legal in vintage sportsman. George could go with a stealth trans and would still be legal in this class.
Gonzo Sonny told me what year this car was champion. As soon as my Alzheimer's clears up I will put that information here. Gonzo used to be an original RC10. Sonny has laid many sprint tracks to waste with this great vintage sprint car conversion. Son of Gonzo I guess that's grandson of Gonzo. 1988 Turbo Optima. This is another one of mine. This car started out with the original rail frame. After the first season I replaced the stock frame and A arms with the Hot Trick Fiberglass frame and Aluminum A arms. I also changed the chain drive to a belt drive. The following season I added the thorp rear diff and external gears. I also added the one way front diff , and replaced the Hot Trick glass with Trinity Graphite. I have purple Trinity shocks for this car that have never been assembled. The car also has trinity drive axles all the way around. All of the red and gold aluminum has been de anodized. Looks good doesn't it .
The Hunter Thanks to Brent Hullender for donating this piece to my RC Museum. LOL! Does anyone remember these? This car is a Marui Hunter. (Marui is the company that made the Big Bear) It came out around 1986. It used the same rear diff set that the Big Bear used. Back when everyone raced Tamiya class cars this machine was very competitive. The front shocks are internal like a Formula car. The rear shock is horizontal and lays down under the wing. I really like the look of this car. To me this era of RC was the best. RC buggies still looked like dune buggies. Now they are to far out there. The wheels are to big.
Hot Trick RC10 This car has been on long term loan from Jason Owen!
The cool thing about this car is the way it came to be. About late 1986 or 87. RC racing as a sport had exploded. Kits of any kind were hard to come buy, especially those of racing grade. Chattanooga Hobby had no Kits for any level of RC10, but they did have parts. Bryan Walker took the Hot trick fiberglass chassis and Wide Foot front end, Kyosho shocks and completed the kit with RC10 parts off the shelf. This car was at the time the widest track available. The red front end plate is considerably wider than the stock nose. The car may even be wider than the champ edition that came out in 90. Its a good example of how people started widening the front track. Now the cars have skinny kick up plates with super long A-arms. The red shocks aren't supposed to be any better than the Associated ones. The thing is that you couldn't get Associated shocks at the time. Sand Scorcher These Sand Scorchers predate even the Frog. Stan Web's B4 and after. Stan has already broken hearts at the track with this one. What else did you expect.
Worlds Edition Losi. Local Stadium Trucks. Gotta get me one of these!!!
Well I hope you enjoyed the pics. If someone you know has a cool car, then let me know and I will bug them until I get pictures of it. Kent
